He served the club in many roles over many years; Captain, Treasurer and President among them, and was part of the fabric of this club.

Our sympathies and best wishes go to his family.

This will be followed by a simple wake at our golf club & a wreath will be placed under the tree (on 18th fairway). His ashes will be scattered on the following Sunday (18th) at 1:00pm.

Wellow (a) match v.2

Well our final match of the year was played at Wellow Golf Club on Saturday 15th October and what fine hosts they were. The day started with a hearty breakfast and an endless supply of coffee and tea which certainly got our energy levels up.

Southampton carried over a slender lead from our home leg and were soon under the cosh from a very determined Wellow side whose captain was very keen to have revenge. We had as always this year a good selection of members who had put their names and reputations on the line and although not all of us came back with our reputations in tact we managed to keep our noses in front.

Kevin Bouault & Dave Griffths and Jake Hennen & Pete Dhanda were the pairings that had solid victories and despite losing the other three matches in which Chris Bunting questioned if his partner had turned up on the day we were all very pleased in the manner in which all the games were played which enforces the saying that playing and winning on the golf course are not what matters, decency and honesty are the things that count.

I would like to thank Kevin Foot this year’s Captain at Wellow for his efforts at both home and away legs to enable the friendly competition to run smoothly and add that he did get his revenge on both Kevin Farminer and myself although he did pick a great partner in Billy Ray who played great golf.

My thanks also goes out to all of the Southampton members who have supported the club matches throughout the year and encourage members to put their names up on the board for next year’s competitions as it really does test your golf game.

Romsey GC visit

On Sat 29th Oct fourteen foe from Romsey GC arrived to challenge Chris Bunting & co to a match. Seven pairs from each side lined-up to play betterball matchplay. It was good to see old friends now playing at Romsey back & getting re-acquainted.

Some of the matches didn’t go our way, but notable wins by Geoff Thomas + Kevin Bouault & John Mullane + Dave Griffiths brought the overall match score to 3 wins apiece. So it was down to the final match, where Steve Hodder + Nick Dhanda managed to squeeze home with a win & so gave us a win 4 to 3.

Bring on the return match sometime in the future !
