Juniors @ Bramley GC

Our juniors were away to Bramley in the Blackmoor shield on Sunday 1st July. Unfortunately we could only raise 4 players and not the full 5, so conceded 1 match before we started.
Tom, Byron, Drew and Josh all battled well and played some wonderful golf. Unfortunately we only managed 1 win by Josh Bulley in his 1st club match.
As we beat them in the final last year, it was a little bit of pay back, but a very nice bunch of players so good luck to them.
It was great to get Drew back playing again after his injury.

Juniors ‘Green Jacket’ match

Three of our juniors played in the ‘Green Jackets’ at Corehampton on Friday 13th.
The result went our way 2:1, so we are through to the next round which will be against either Liphook or Westridge, at home.
It was very nice of Jake who is no longer a junior to come along, with Chris and Kevin, to show support and encouragement to our team.
Again they’ve done us proud with Byron and Jack both playing better than their handicaps. I put this down to preparation, as the week before they both entered the Corehampton Open and although they didn’t do great on the day, they learned a bit about the course which is very different to ours. Tom was our third team member.
I would like to thank the Corehamptons Pro and Junior Organiser (Matt).  The course was in amazing condition and the hospitality post match fantastic.
As a club we should be very proud of them and do all we can to encourage the next generation coming through.

Juniors the next generation

Sunday afternoon we took 6 of our new junior golfers out on the course for 9 holes. Now I can see the future teams forming. Some very promising players in the making.
Thanks to Captain Chris Comley, Rob Swain and Will Sands for their time and encouragement on the course.
More events to come soon !

Juniors win Final

Southampton junior golfers are on the map !!
After beating Romsey and Bramshaw in away matches we took on Bramley in the final at Blackmoor. Teams of 5 all playing 2 matches each, am & pm.
Wearing their new shirts purchased by member contributions and Glen Cattle for the embroidery they looked like a team and I am sure felt like one.
Led out by captain Tom Beaven on a beautiful and very well maintained golf course.  Both Tom & Jack Dyer-Slade won convincingly.  Drew had the hardest match he has played for a while.  Going up 18 and giving a shot to a girl. Drew found a bunker on his approach while she clattered the clubhouse and bounced back to the front of the green then chipped up to 18 inches. Drew hit his bunker shot and had a long putt which he hit in thinking he had still lost.  He said for her to tap in as it was for the match lipping out and missing the return.  Upsetting for her but golf is strange at times.  David found the oob and lost on 18 while our hero from Bramshaw Byron struggled and also lost.
3 – 2 up after am rounds but plenty of work to do as Bramley were a strong and competent team.
Tom led us out again in the pm rounds and recorded his 2nd win as did Drew.  (Not playing the girl this time)  Losing the 2 back matches and 1 more win required.  David 1 up on 15 lost 16 & 17 to be 1 down playing 18.  I told him if he won I would take him for a beer on the way home.  He won 18 so extra holes.  Halved 1 and won 2 with a birdie as Byron did in previous round.  1 pint of San Miguel owed !
Southampton Win but games still going.  Jack lost for the first time but Byron halved his match on the last.  No need to play extra holes at this stage.  Final score Southampton
6 1/2 Bramley 3 1/2 but trust me it was tighter than the score shows.
A big thank you the all the staff at Blackmore for putting a great venue and a very well run event together.
