Malcolm Calvert presented a cheque for £466.80 on behalf of Southampton Golf Club to the
Southampton Society for the Blind. The cheque was received by
site manager Katherine and assistant manager Paul along with several blind
or partially sighted members.
It is very difficult for them to obtain donations now because of the new
system under the charities commission and the club is delighted to have helped. Malcolm is pictured below making the cheque presentation.

The 2008 Club Championship was held on Saturday 19th June. 72 entrants enjoyed 36 holes on an excellently prepared course - and it didn't even rain!!! Chris Harrison retained the trophy that he won last year shooting a net 69 in the morning and a net 65 in the afternoon. Full scores are available on www.howdidido.com. The two extremes of the day - Wayne Barehams albatross on the 16th and Jeff Priests 17 on the 12. Jeff obviously missed his good luck charm from last year!!!
The weekend of 12-14th July saw the arrival of 12 golfers from Southampton Golf Club in New York for the inaugural Southampton International Challenge ("Ryder Cup"). The weekend was a huge success and the 2 teams forged a fantastically strong bond which will hopefully ensure that the event is repeated many times over the coming years. Both the socialising and the golf were hugely competitive and whilst the UK possibly edged the drinking, the US team were victorious on the course winning by 15 points to 13. After the first day it seemed that the UK team were heading for a humiliating thrashing on their home course but they recovered well to ensure that the match was still competitive going into the singles on the final day. But the Americans just held on and took the trophy back across the pond with them following the presentation made by the Mayor of Southampton at the closing dinner.
The trophy is, however, only on loan - the UK team will travel to the States in September 2009 to bring it back!!!!
